HOW TO LEAD CLOSING CIRCLE
Our closing circle begins when the music ends (about 12:45) and generally goes until 1:00. Our tradition is to include these elements:
Feel free to put your own spin on the Closing Circle, taking care that you invite rather than require any kind of participation from others. We generally need to be done by 1:00, especially if there’s another group coming in.
- Sharing Names – Starting with the Leader, each person says the name of the person next to them and then their own name.
- Sharing Thoughts – Everyone has the opportunity to share about their experience at the dance. Encourage people to introduce themselves at the beginning of their share.
- Community Announcements – This can include other dances, upcoming events, things people are seeking (home, job, etc.), things people are offering, etc.
- Soul Sanctuary Dance Announcements – Announce any SSD news such as the next week’s DJ/host, upcoming events, cancellations, etc. Mention that we’re volunteer-run and are always looking for people to help in the roles of DJ, Welcomer, Fruit Shopper/Server, and Closing Circle Leader. Refer people to the “Volunteer” link on our website for more information and to sign up: SoulSanctuaryDance.com. Pass our postcards around the circle and encourage folks to spread the word.
- The Free Table – Let people know about it and remind them that items not taken need to be taken home by the person who brought them.
- Cleanup – Ask people to help clean up the stage (art, supplies, scarves, etc), the Free Table, and the tables and chairs. (FYI – The DJ/host will take care of the kitchen area.)
- Brunch – People interested in going to brunch/lunch can gather near the door and decide where to go.
