To volunteer, read the role descriptions and check the schedule below, then contact us to let us know what you want to do and when.
Role Descriptions
Welcomer: Arrive at 10:45 and help the DJ set up. Greet everyone as they enter and sign them in. For newcomers, have them read our Community Agreements and Welcome notice, and ask for email addresses. You can tell them that we don't share our email list and that it's important to stay in touch, because on rare occasions we have to notify our community of cancellations due to scheduling conflicts at Ashkenaz. Invite people to use the gift box to pay it forward for future dances if they wish. Dance near the welcome area during the early part of the dance (11-11:30), and dance wherever you wish during the remainder of the time, keeping an eye open for late arrivals.
Fruit Shopper/Server: Buy organic, California-grown fruit to be shared after the dance. Expect to spend around $9-$15 ($12 average). Any type of fruit is fine, and the quantity should be about equivalent to 10 large apples. Save the receipt and be reimbursed at the dance, or, if you choose to make it a donation, then write "donation" on the receipt and put it in the "pay-it-forward" box. Be prepared to serve the fruit when closing circle starts at 12:45. Bring your own serving plates. Fruit must be washed in advance - we cannot use the kitchen/cafe space at Ashkenaz.
Closing Circle Leader: Lead our closing circle, including our usual traditions (names, sharing about the day's dance, community announcements, announcements about free table, cleanup, and lunch after the dance). Add anything else you wish, taking care that you invite rather than require any kind of participation from others. Circle is from 12:45-1:00. More details about leading closing circle are here.
DJ/Host: Soul Sanctuary Dance resident DJs and DJs-in-training fill this volunteer role. We are always open to adding more DJs to our roster. More information about becoming a DJ for the dance is available here.
Backup Roles: Fill in for the primary person in that role if they can't make it.
