This Sunday, Soul Sanctuary celebrates the solstice and the commencement of Summer! DJ Herb brings an assortment of aural antics (mostly music) intended to induce dancing, grinning and similar seasonable behaviors.

DJ Z took a trip with his dad to Africa in 1966, and the music and dancing there has been inside him ever since. Later, his dad introduced him to jazz and blues, American music with roots in Africa. Still later, he thrilled to soul, R&B, funk, hip hop, and the bounce-back-influence-to-Africa music of afrobeat. Join in this Sunday at Soul Sanctuary Dance for a dance trip inspired by all these genres and more, in recognition of roots and influences.

DJ Mick is celebrating two years since she started to DJ at Soul Sanctuary Dance!  Boy, has she learned a bunch in that time – about working a soundboard (to be honest, that caused a bit of panic at first!); about BPN (that’s “beats per minute,” y’all); and, of course, about music!  This Sunday, she’ll take you on a dance journey of her favorite finds over the last years, as well as some much-loved dance tunes she doesn’t often have a chance to play.  As usual, the ride will be far-ranging, fun and heartfelt.
